When Gort rolled off the production line he had faulty infra red sensor programs and his laser aim was rather poor.
This was totally unacceptable for a security droid so he was retro-fitted with a visual upgrade and improved laser.
His sight and aim was much improved but unfortunately he went on a gun crazy rampage due to a faulty protocol system, attacking both droids and civilians. All programs have been stripped from him and he has now been decommissioned and left on show in the droid gallery.
