Foreword by Joey Headen, co-author of the original Cholo.
Glyn and I had been working for Island Logic on a solid filled 3D helicopter game, but after that got cancelled we decided to start our own company - Solid Image.
We designed a game with droids as they were easy to render with wire frame models. We had both been reading Philip K Dick novels and think the idea of the droids subjugating the human race may have come from that - although we didn't plagiarize him.
We couldn't think of a title for the game, so in desperation just before a meeting with our agent I typed a series of random letters on the keyboard and filled in some of the gaps with vowels - the original title of the game was Skrobfelklaqoor.
We thought this sounded like Koyaanisqatsi - a film with Philip Glass music we had seen - and we liked the Native American sound of it. So we got a list of Native American words and tribes and looked for a 5 letter word as we thought this would stand out more on the box. One of the first words we saw was Cholo, and as we liked the way it sounded and looked, we chose that as the games name.
